City seeks input on Upper Noons Creek Drive traffic calming from area residents, school community

Help us make Upper Noons Creek Drive safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone who travels along this route. If you live in the area, or you are a member of the Mountain Meadows Elementary School community (school staff and parents/guardians of children who attend the school), we want to hear from you! Visit engage.portmoody.ca to learn about the City of Port Moody’s Upper Noons Creek Drive Traffic Calming Study and find out how you can share your input.

The Study will assess current conditions on Noons Creek Drive from Maude Court to Juniper Place and recommend physical measures to:

  • reduce vehicle speeding (especially in front of Mountain Meadows Elementary School);
  • encourage active transportation (walking, rolling, cycling, etc.); and
  • improve safety, comfort, and accessibility.

How do you currently use Upper Noons Creek Drive? What kinds of issues are you experiencing? Do you have any ideas for improvements? Your input will help us understand the existing challenges and opportunities within the project area so we can design recommended solutions for safer travel along this route. City Council will consider staff’s recommendations along with a summary of public engagement results. The approved design will be implemented with an initial pilot phase.

Here’s how you can share your input:

Fill out our survey

Visit our online public engagement hub, Engage Port Moody, to fill out a survey by November 11, 2024. If you prefer, you can fill out a paper survey – pick one up at City Hall (100 Newport Drive) during business hours and return your completed form to the same location by November 8, 2024.

Attend our outdoor pop-up info session

Join us for an outdoor pop-up information session at Mountain Meadows Elementary School (999 Noons Creek Drive) on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 2pm to 5pm. Learn about the project, ask questions, and share your thoughts and ideas.

Noons Creek Drive is an important north-south route that provides access to Mountain Meadows Elementary School and Eagle Ridge Hospital. It has a posted speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour and carries more than 3,000 vehicles per day.

In 2022, the City launched the Active School Travel Plan for Mountain Meadows Elementary School as part of the City’s multi-year School Traffic Safety Initiative program. The City worked with the school, students, and parents to review road safety along Noons Creek Drive from Maude Court to Campion Lane/Cypress Place and developed traffic calming recommendations. Now, the City is building on these recommendations via the Upper Noons Creek Traffic Calming Study, with an expanded project area that includes Noons Creek Drive from Campion Lane/Cypress Place to Juniper Place. The goal of this study is to design and pilot traffic calming measures between Maude Court and Juniper Place.

We anticipate the pilot phase will begin in spring 2025 and continue for approximately one year. During this time, the City will test the approved design using cost-effective materials such as paint, flexible delineators, temporary curbs, and other quick-build materials. At the end of the pilot phase, staff will share findings and make recommendations for permanent changes in a report to Council.
