City receives Green Municipal Fund grant towards electric vehicle
The City of Port Moody has been awarded a $28,840 grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund to evaluate the feasibility of using electric vehicles as part of our operational fleet for core city services.
The City recently welcomed our first fully electric work truck into our service fleet. The Might-E truck is an electric-powered, mid-size vehicle that will replace the use of fossil fuel powered vehicles in performing a variety of Park's operational functions. It’s now being used on the trails, in our parks, and throughout street horticulture sites in Port Moody.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the City’s fleet is an action included in our Climate Action Plan. This new truck, made possible by the Green Municipal Fund grant, is not only helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also reduce noise pollution in parks and trails and improve air quality for our staff who are operating vehicles and our community.
The grant was part of a recently announced $1.76-million investment to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of water, land and transportation in communities across British Columbia. More information on the Green Municipal Fund is available at fcm.ca.
