Official Community Plan: Port Moody 2050

Official Community Plan: Port Moody 2050

Port Moody's new Official Community Plan (OCP), Port Moody 2050, was adopted by City Council on April 28, 2026.

The OCP communicates Port Moody's goals and long-term vision for the future. It guides the City in making decisions about how land is used for housing, transportation, parks, environmental protection, economic development, and more. Port Moody 2050 will serve as a roadmap for the continued evolution of the community over the next 25 years.

Community Vision

  • In 2050, Port Moody is a carbon neutral, resilient, inclusive, safe, and vibrant waterfront city of complete and connected neighbourhoods.
  • Port Moody has unique and complete neighbourhoods with diverse amenities within a 10-minute walk, connected by an active transportation network.

  • Port Moody is a friendly, walkable, healthy, and green community that values its natural environment, environmentally sensitive areas, heritage character and assets, parks and recreation areas.

  • As the City of the Arts, Port Moody’s commitment to arts and culture brings residents together through social connectedness, mutual understanding and placemaking.

Port Moody 2050

Our new OCP envisions and supports a city that protects its natural environment, encourages sustainable transportation choices, pursues accessible and safe parks and community facilities, and guides coordinated, resilient development over time. It was informed by input collected via broad and far-reaching community engagement through multiple phases.

As the City works to achieve our long-term vision, we’ll use a variety of lenses to guide how the community grows and changes. These include our strong focus on climate action and the transition toward a low carbon future, as well as our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. The OCP reaffirms our commitment to advancing Truth and Reconciliation and building effective government-to-government relationships with First Nations.

We respectfully recognize and thank the Coast Salish Nations for their enduring care and guardianship of the land now known as Port Moody, as well as the surrounding waters and skies that sustain us all. We deeply value their continued generosity in sharing their wisdom and cultural teachings with the people and visitors of Port Moody. The B.C. government requires that municipalities update their OCP every five years. The OCP is a living document that can be amended in between updates to respond to changing conditions and values.

Public engagement

Port Moody 2050 was informed by input collected via broad and far-reaching community engagement. Through multiple phases, the City sought to provide meaningful, inclusive engagement opportunities for everyone who wished to participate. The collected input was considered during all phases of policy development. You can read more about the public engagement process and how it informed the OCP on the archived Port Moody 2050 page.
