Access to the Recreation Complex and Arena is limited to those patrons who have registered for a program or activity.  Please note that face masks are required in all public indoor settings including recreation centres and spectators are not allowed at any sports activities.  

Arena 1 and Arena 2 will be open this Fall for skating lessons, private lessons as well as private hockey lessons and adult power skating.  Public skating is not available at this time. The curling center will remain closed.

Skating and hockey programs - SET 3 IS CURRENTLY FULL

We offer several skate lessons and hockey programs that teach children and adults how to play hockey plus a variety of learn to skate programs for all ages. 

Physical distancing measures will be in place;

  • there will be a maximum of 25 skaters one the ice at one time;
  • group lessons have of maximum 4 students per class 
Skate program expectations

FACILITY GUIDELINES

  • Doors will open 15 minutes prior to your lesson time. Please be on time, if you are late you will not be allowed to enter the building.
  • Please line up on markers distanced 2 metres apart at the Arena 2 Entrance.
  • Face masks are required to be worn in the facility.
  • Please wait for the Recreation Host to greet you and check you in.
  • Each parent/guardian and child will be required to complete a COVID-19 self-assessment health check before entering the building.
  • Practice physical distancing. During sign in, please stay 2 metres away from anyone who is not a member of your household.
  • There is no re-entry into the facility once you leave.

SKATE LESSON EXPECTATIONS

  • Children (and parents) are encouraged to use the washroom before leaving home and sanitize hands upon entering the building.
  • Please come dressed to go on the ice. Participants must wear skates, helmet and gloves. Ensure that equipment fits, skates are laced tightly and helmet fits snugly.
  • Only registered children and one parent/guardian (no siblings) are permitted in the program space.
  • A parent/guardian will be permitted to enter the facility to tie skates then must exit. Your child can be picked up at the Arena 2 exit door in the courtyard. The parent/guardian is not permitted to remain at the ice surface during their child’s lesson.
  • Participants may enter the facility without their parent/guardian with skates and guards on, however they must be able to remove guards and then put them on to exit or unlace skates and put shoes on. This could be practiced at home.
  • Skate and helmet rentals are now available. Punch passes cannot be accepted at this time. 
  • CSA approved hockey, ski or snowboard helmets are mandatory for all lesson participants (including adults). Bike helmets are not permitted.
  • Participants are to remain at their designated seat until gates to the ice are opened. Enter the ice single file with two metre physical distancing.
  • Bring a filled water bottle, if needed.
  • In case of an emergency, parents/guardians are required to remain close to the arena.   
  • Please ensure you have registered your child in the correct level. If they are registered in a level they have not been progressed to or assessed at, they will be moved to the appropriate level as space permits, or withdrawn from the program.
  • Due to COVID-19, participants must be independent on the ice as instructors must maintain physical distancing while teaching the lesson.

GEAR CHECKLIST

SKATING 

  • Skates:  sharpened and properly fitted (hockey skates fit 1-2 sizes smaller than shoe size;  figure skates fit the same as shoe size)
  • CSA approved helmet:  hockey, ski or snowboard.  No bike helmets.
  • Gloves

HOCKEY

  • CSA approved helmet with a face cage or full visor, full hockey equipment required including neck guard and a hockey stick.

HEALTH CHECK RESPONSIBILITIES

You MUST assess yourself and your child daily. Stay home and notify staff if you and/or your child or anyone in your household:

  • is experiencing ANY symptoms of common cold, flu, or COVID-19-like symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue or loss of appetite;
  • has traveled to any country or airport outside of Canada within the last 14 days; or
  • has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.

 

Recreation Hosts or Skate Lesson Supervisors will provide further instruction during check-in.

Equipment rentals
  • Skate and helmet rentals are now available
  • Rentals must be pre-purchased online at the time of booking
  • Hockey skates fit 1-2 sizes smaller than shoe size, figure skates fit the same as shoe size
Wear a helmet

CSA-approved hockey, ski or snowboard helmets are mandatory for children 10 and under during all skate lessons and public skates.

Public skating - CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE

Public skating will resume by registration only as of October 14, 2020.  You will be able to register for a 60-minute Public skating or Adult skating session using our online booking system, or call (604)469-4556 during office hours. You may begin to register 24 hours in advance of your desired ice time.

Please note:

  • Public skating is open to skaters ages 3+
  • CSA-approved hockey or snowboard helmets are mandatory for children 10 and under
  • skate and helmet rentals are available and must be pre-arranged online at the time of booking - punch passes cannot be redeemed at this time
  • children 7 and under must be accompanied on ice by a registered adult

  • children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the facility

  • no more than one spectator per registered skater
  • directional skate only, no twirling or jumping

  • skate assists are not available

  • strollers are not allowed at this time
  • there is a maximum of 25 skaters on the ice per session

Be sure to: 

  • arrive 15 min prior to your start time - no late entry will be permitted
  • enter through the arena 2 entrance, located between the main recreation complex entrance and main arena entrance
  • come prepared – bring a full water bottle and wear proper attire, as there will be no access to dressing rooms
  • exit promptly through the rear exit doors to the back parking lot

The Port Moody Curling Club offers a variety of curling programs through the Recreation Complex curling centre. This includes kid's leagues, mixed leagues, recreational leagues, and men's and women's leagues.
