Marine Environment
Port Moody Arm is home to some of the last remaining large productive intertidal wetlands in Burrard Inlet. At low tide an expansive area of tidal mud flats is exposed that supports an invertebrate community that is an important food source for marine birds and fish. These mud flats form the City’s Tidal Park, have been designated for conservation use by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and are under long-term lease to the City.
The marine wildlife that uses the mud flats and are present in Port Moody Arm are sensitive to disturbance from recreational activities and industrial and urban development:
- People and pets should stay off the mudflats.
- Respect speed limits.
- No power boats are allowed in Tidal Park.
- Keep your distance when observing marine wildlife
- Boats anchored must have a Designated Anchorage Area permit
