Youth in grades 8 to 12: register to participate in 2024 Mayor’s Youth Summit on October 25

Calling all youth in grades 8 through 12 – use your voice to help shape our community! Register online or by phone at 604-469-4556 to participate in the 2024 Mayor’s Youth Summit, happening on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 8:30am to 3:15pm at the Inlet Theatre and Galleria (100 Newport Drive). Join youth from across Port Moody and the Tri-Cities, along with City officials and community stakeholders, to discuss critical issues like climate justice, mental health and wellness, social connectedness, and youth spaces. The Summit will be an inspiring day dedicated to exploring these important topics, sharing insights, and building connections.
The 2024 Mayor's Youth Summit provides a platform for local youth to engage in discussions about issues affecting their lives and the community. Participants must be 12 to 18 years old and live in Port Moody or attend school in School District 43. Attendees will earn seven hours of volunteer time.
“As Mayor, I want to hear from all the voices in our community, including our young people who have unique insights and experiences and diverse perspectives,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “The goals of the Summit are to empower youth voices, foster collaboration, and gain input that will help to inform Council’s future policy decisions. I would like to invite youth who live in Port Moody or attend school in SD43 to participate in this dynamic and meaningful event. Together, we can create a brighter future for everyone.”
The Mayor’s Youth Summit will include:
- introductory remarks from Mayor Lahti and a welcome from Kwikwetlem First Nation Elder Xem-Tu-Mus (Stephen Armstrong);
- engaging workshops – participate in interactive workshops led by youth leaders, City officials, and community stakeholders;
- thought-provoking discussions – join panel discussions on pressing issues to listen to others’ perspectives, share your insights, and collaborate with peers and experts; and
- networking opportunities – connect with peers, mentors, and community leaders who share your passion for positive change, build meaningful connections, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
