The City of Port Moody wishes to express their sincere condolences to the family of a resident who died during the windstorm. Port Moody Fire Rescue was called to an emergency of a Structure Collapse/Entrapment on Alpine Place, just off of Noons Creek Drive. A large tree had fallen onto a single family home, cutting into the upstairs portion of the house and pinning one of the occupants. Using rescue equipment crews were able to safely remove the tree and free a 57-year old female. Unfortunately, she did not survive.

Port Moody Mayor Mike Clays says “We are deeply saddened at this tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of loss. The Port Moody Police Department has activated victim services and is providing support services for the family.”

We know some residents will be concerned as a result of this accident regarding trees in their neighbourhood. Please contact the City’s Operations Division at 604.469.4574 to arrange an inspection of trees on City lands if you have such concerns.

The City expresses deep heartfelt sympathies to the victim’s family.
