Due to Port Moody’s Car-Free Day celebration, St. Johns Street, between Douglas and Moody streets, will be closed to all vehicle traffic on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 6am to 10pm. Commuters and residents living in the area are asked to use alternative routes such as Clarke Street; expect delays and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

Port Moody’s Car-Free Day event will take place on St. Johns Street, between Queens and Moody streets, on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Everyone is welcome – join us for great food, live music, and family-friendly activities between 12 noon and 5pm. There will be approximately 100 booths presented by local businesses, artisans, and non-profit groups.

If you are coming to the celebration, there are lots of ways to travel: use your own power – go on foot or by bike or hop on a kick scooter or skateboard; choose electric – e-scooter or e-bike; or use public transit. Park your bike for free with The Bicycle Valet, brought to you by TransLink and operated by BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation).

Check TransLink’s Trip Planner for transit routes and schedules. Vehicle parking, available at Westcoast Express Park and Ride (65 Williams Street), will be extremely limited. If you choose to drive, consider carpooling with friends or neighbours who plan to attend, to reduce the number of cars on the road.

Car-free days take place across the country and aim to inspire people to get out of their cars, interact with each other, and explore alternative modes of transportation.
