Shoreline Trail sanitary sewer upgrades completed, trail improvements to start in May

The City is pleased to announce the first phase of the Shoreline Trail Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Project has come to an end with the completion of upgrades to two aging sanitary sewer mains that are critical components of Port Moody’s sanitary sewer network.
Phase 1 work began in July 2022. Since then, the section of the Shoreline Trail paved pathway that runs from Murray Street (3200 block near the railroad track) to Old Orchard Park (630 Alderside Road) has been closed intermittently due to construction. This section of the trail is now open and will remain available for use until work begins on the second phase of the project in May 2023. The City would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience and understanding during the intermittent closures.
We anticipate Phase 2 of the Shoreline Trail Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Project will be completed in December 2023. This phase will focus on improvements to the paved trail from the 3200 block of Murray Street to Old Orchard Park. Benefits will include:
- widening of some parts of the pathway as well as installation of a new asphalt surface and improved drainage;
- the addition of new benches, wayfinding signs, and interpretive signs; and
- improvements to environmental and riparian areas.
The bridge over Noons Creek will also be replaced during Phase 2, with an expected completion date in fall 2023.
Due to Phase 2 construction, the section of the Shoreline Trail paved pathway that runs from the 3200 block of Murray Street to Old Orchard Park will be closed from May to December 2023. A detour route – the same route used during Phase 1 – will be in effect. Detour signs will be posted along the trail, and you can also view a map at portmoody.ca/shorelinetrail.
In 2020, the City conducted stakeholder and public engagement on proposed improvements to the Shoreline Trail.
