shoreline trail construction update

The Shoreline Trail multi-use path is now open between the 3200 block of Murray Street and Old Orchard Park after being closed for Phase 2 work on the Shoreline Trail Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Project

Please expect an uneven surface on sections of the trail, until final paving is completed in early 2024. At that time, the trail will be intermittently closed to allow for the weather-dependent final paving work.

Following the completion of Phase 1 sanitary sewer upgrades beneath the pathway, Phase 2 began in July 2023 with a focus on improvements to the surface-level experience. This work has included improvements to environmental and riparian areas; widening of some parts of the pathway; improved drainage; and the replacement of the bridge over Noons Creek. Additional work to be completed early in 2024 includes final paving, and installation of new benches and signage.

A second project on the Shoreline Trail is now underway, with work beginning in stages on the Shoreline Trail Boardwalk Replacement Project. The closure to the section of boardwalk and gravel path that was anticipated to begin December 11, 2023 has been delayed to resolve an emergent construction matter. Access is currently permitted along the stretch of lower boardwalk and gravel trail from Murray Street to the intersection with the upper paved multi-use path near the bridge over Noons Creek. In early January 2024, users should expect to encounter closures as work progresses on this project through to spring 2024. When the boardwalk is closed, trail users will be able to detour along the Shoreline Trail multi-use pathway.
