Port Moody to move forward with limited ice arena services for sports groups in September

Starting this September, the City of Port Moody’s two ice arenas will be available for limited use by sports groups, such as minor hockey teams and skating clubs, with COVID-19 safety plans in place as required by the provincial government.
Both ice arenas are located at the Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road). Arena 2 will be available starting September 1, 2020 and Arena 1 will be available starting September 26, 2020.
The re-establishment of limited ice arena services is part of Moving Forward, our phased plan to deliver services and programs as we adapt to the new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The safety of our residents and employees is our top priority. Provincial guidelines require the following measures to be put in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- 30-minute breaks between bookings to allow for cleaning and to ensure that only one group at a time is using the space;
- limited or no access for parents/guardians and spectators;
- quick arrivals and departures – players must arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before the start of the booking and leave immediately after;
- doors marked for entrance only and exit only to encourage one-way flow;
- ground markers in place to facilitate physical distancing;
- a limited number of players and coaches on the playing surface;
- earlier closing times for facilities to allow more time for cleaning; and
- no access to change rooms or drinking water.
Moving Forward aligns with BC’s Restart Plan and focuses on making decisions in a careful and steady way, with health and safety at the forefront. We have developed site-specific safety plans, as required by WorkSafeBC, and continue to follow all directives and recommendations from the provincial government and public health authorities.
