The City of Port Moody invites residents to celebrate Public Works Week (May 20 to 26, 2018) by taking part in hands-on activities at a Community Open House at the Port Moody Works Yard (3250 Murray Street) on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 9am to 1pm

This important event showcases how all aspects of public works – from providing clean water and disposing of solid waste, to maintaining our roads and taking care of our parks – contribute to the excellent quality of life we enjoy in Port Moody.

City staff will host informative exhibits, perform live demonstrations, and offer lots of fun activities and give-aways for the community. Areas of interest include construction, transportation, parks and environment, waterworks, urban forestry, recycling, and solid waste.

At the 2018 Public Works Week Community Open House, visitors can:

  • check out the mechanics shop where all the City vehicles, including police cars and firetrucks, get serviced;
  • help to insert small plants into the metal frame of the Mama Bear and Cub Canada 150 eco-sculpture that will be installed in one our local parks this summer;
  • see a pipe leak detection demo and learn how to locate a buried water shut-off valve;
  • see how a sewer cleaner works;
  • and so much more!

All activities at the Community Open House are free. Residents are asked to consider bringing a donation for SHARE Family and Community Services.

Each year, Public Works Week is celebrated across Canada and the United States to educate the general public about the value and necessity of public works projects throughout North America.
