Port Moody prioritizes accessibility and inclusion with changes to summer recreation services, fees
Get ready for more fitness and more fun this summer as the City introduces increased summer hours at the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road) and a $2 per person pool admission fee that will apply to all ages and all sessions at Rocky Point Pool (2800 block Murray Street) and Westhill Pool (203 Westhill Place). We are also offering inclusion and support services for children and youth who need support within our summer camp programs.
“We know that opportunities to engage in fitness and recreation are important for our residents’ physical and mental well-being, and for their sense of community and belonging,” said Mayor Meghan Lahti. “That’s why we are continuously looking for ways to make our recreation services, facilities, and programs more accessible and inclusive.
“Extending the Rec Complex’s summer hours further into the evening will provide more flexibility for all patrons including youth, individuals with busy or irregular schedules, and people who want to maximize the value of their purchased memberships. We’re simplifying pool admission fees to reduce financial barriers and encourage increased participation for all users, including our highest-use group, families. And we’re introducing inclusion and support services for our summer camps to encourage participation and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all campers.”
Increased summer hours at the Recreation Complex
From July 2 through Labour Day in September, hours of operation for the Port Moody Recreation Complex will be the same as the rest of the year: 6am to 10pm on weekdays and 8am to 9pm on weekends.
Previously, summer hours were 6am to 9pm on weekdays, 8am to 8pm on Saturdays, and 8am to 6pm on Sundays. During extended summer hours, the weight room, walking track, and open gym will be available. There will be no new drop-in or registered programs offered during these times.
Visit portmoody.ca/recreation for information about admission rates, the weight room, and more.
Swim admission $2 per person for all ages, all sessions
New for the 2024 swim season, the admission fee for the City’s outdoor swimming pools at Rocky Point Park and Westhill Park will be $2 per person (tax included) for all ages and all sessions (afternoon swim or evening swim).
Previously, admission fees for the afternoon session were higher and dependent on age/family categories: $2.25 for children and youth, $4.80 for students and seniors, and $6.15 for adults, with a family rate of $3.80 per person. As an example of how the change will impact patrons, a family of four attending an afternoon session will see a savings of $7.20, with admission reduced from $15.20 ($3.80 per person) to $8.00 ($2 per person). The fee for the evening session remains unchanged at $2 per person regardless of age or family status.
Pools are scheduled to open June 17, 2024 with a limited schedule; regular hours start July 2. Visit portmoody.ca/aquatics for more information.
Inclusion and support services for summer camps
New for the 2024 summer camp season (July 2 through August 30), we are offering inclusion and support services for children and youth who need support to be safe and successful in a camp environment. You can request support during the summer camp registration process by adding your child’s name to the Support Request List – find out more at portmoody.ca. You must also complete and submit a Participant Support Intake Form by June 2, 2024.
Please note that being on the Support Request List does not guarantee support as it may depend on what kind of support is needed, available resources, staff skill levels, and availability of adapted equipment. Port Moody residents have priority over residents from other municipalities. A limited number of summer camp spots are still available; please visit portmoody.ca/signmeup today to view camp options and secure your spot. If you have questions, please email us at recreationinclusion@portmoody.ca or call 604-469-4556.
