Open Fire Burning Restriction in Port Moody
In conjunction with the Coastal Fire Centre, Port Moody Fire Rescue has announced an open fire burning restriction within the boundaries of the City of Port Moody, effective 12pm, Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Prohibited activities include campfires; barbeques in City parks that require the use of charcoal, briquettes, or wood; tiki torches; fireworks; firecrackers; candles; and sky lanterns.
Port Moody Fire Chief, Remo Faedo says the burning restrictions are needed to reduce the chance of accidental fires in both wooded and urban areas. “The recent warm weather creates dry forest conditions and with temperatures expected to move into the thirties later this week there is a higher risk for accidental fires.”
Port Moody Fire Rescue maintains a four-step fire hazard rating with signage displayed at the northwest corner of Ioco Road and Murray Street. This rating has been elevated to “high”. The open fire burning ban will remain in effect until there is significant rainfall in the region. As a reminder, open fires and smoking are not permitted in City parks at any time.
