2024 spike awards

The City of Port Moody is accepting nominations for the 2024 Spike Business Awards. Help us recognize the valuable contributions of our business community – tell us about your favourite Port Moody businesses by October 11, 2024. 

“The Spike Business Awards help us celebrate businesses that have built strong connections with their customers and with the broader community,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “They are advocates and innovators, as well as inspiring leaders and champions of community values such as diversity and inclusion, environmental protection, and arts and culture. If you have been impressed this year by one Port Moody business or many, please take a few minutes to fill out our online nomination form.” 

One award winner will be selected in each of the following five categories: 

  • City of the Arts Business – celebrates a business or organization that contributes to the City of the Arts brand, supports cross-cultural and cross-sectoral partnerships, and enhances the creative economy;
  • Business Impact – recognizes a business that has experienced sustained business success and demonstrated social responsibility through environmental leadership, inclusive labour practices, and charitable giving and community involvement (to be nominated, a business does not need to be engaging in all of these areas of social responsibility but must be investing significantly in at least one);
  • Puts Port Moody on the Map – celebrates a business that puts Port Moody on the map by increasing the profile of the city regionally, provincially, nationally, or internationally and contributes to the cultural, artistic, and social capital of the city;
  • Community Builder – recognizes a member of the Port Moody business community or a businessperson residing in the city who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community through inspirational leadership and/or spearheading and supporting initiatives and mentorship; and
  • New Business – celebrates a business operating in Port Moody for more than one year and fewer than three years that has enjoyed business success, has a clear vision for the future, and demonstrates excellence in management, service, and integrity. 

Please note that four of the above categories are new for 2024 and replace the following categories from 2023: Arts in Business, Environmental Leadership, Inclusive Excellence, and Young Entrepreneur. 

Which businesses do you think stand out in some way or go above and beyond? Fill out a nomination form online or pick up a paper copy at City Hall (100 Newport Drive). 

We also want to hear directly from our local business community. We are encouraging owners and employees to self-nominate for our Business of the Year award. Tell us about your growth, customer service, and commitment to the community. This is an opportunity to showcase the phenomenal work you’ve done this year. 

The Spike Business Awards celebrate the contribution of small businesses to the local community. Businesses must have a valid Port Moody business licence to be eligible to win.

Winners are selected by the City's Economic Development and Tourism Committee. Award winners will be recognized at a gala event on November 28, 2024 during B.C. Buy Local Week.
