Holiday Cheer at the Pier is coming to Rocky Point Park on November 30 – join the celebration
Join us for Holiday Cheer at the Pier on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at the boat launch and pier in Rocky Point Park (2800 block Murray Street). Winter is coming and in many places around the world, this season brings a variety of festivals and holidays. Let’s get things started in Port Moody with this free and fun celebration for all ages.
“Holiday Cheer at the Pier is a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends, family, and neighbours, spend some time outdoors, and enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the season,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “I encourage you to attend this fantastic event in beautiful Rocky Point Park – it’s one you won’t want to miss. And please consider bringing a non-perishable food item or a new toy for donation to help local families in need.
“We’re happy to have the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, proudly representing the Port of Vancouver, as a sponsor of this event,” continues Mayor Lahti. “We appreciate the port authority’s support of Holiday Cheer at the Pier and their commitment to fostering strong, vibrant port communities.”
There’s something for everyone at Holiday Cheer at the Pier. Visit with Santa and enjoy games, musical performances, and roving entertainers. Take in the colourful lights along the pier, then warm up in front of a roaring bonfire (safely maintained by members of the Port Moody Volunteer Firefighters Association). New this year – bring your appetite and stay for dinner! We’ll have three food trucks on site serving up meals and treats (for purchase).
Here are some more activities (free or by donation) to get you in a festive mood:
- enjoy hot chocolate by donation, offered by the Rotary Club of Port Moody;
- come and see us at Pop-Up City Hall (blue and white tents with the City logo) to get a complimentary sweet treat and enter a draw for a chance to win a gift basket;
- write a letter to Santa with help from the POMO Museum;
- participate in a scavenger hunt and decorate a wooden ornament with the Port Moody Public Library;
- decorate a ceramic ornament with PoMoArts;
- check out the Blackberry Artist’s Society’s mini winter market;
- see Santa’s Christmas Ships, scheduled to arrive in Burrard Inlet around 6pm; and
- learn about Canada’s largest and most diversified port at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority booth.
Port Moody Fire Rescue will be collecting new, unwrapped toys as they kick-off their 2024 Toy Drive, and the Port Moody Police Department will be on hand to collect non-perishable food items. Please consider giving what you can. All donations will help local families via SHARE Family and Community Services.
Holiday Cheer at the Pier is an accessible event for people using wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility devices. This is an outdoor celebration that will go ahead rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Dogs must be on a leash. Smoking/vaping and drinking alcohol are not permitted.
Parking at Rocky Point Park (pay parking is in effect) will be extremely limited. There is a pay parking lot a 10-minute walk from the event area (at Moody Centre Station, 65 Williams Street). Consider leaving your car at home and walking, cycling, or taking public transit instead.
We look forward to seeing you on November 30 as we mark the beginning of the holiday season with this special celebration!
