Drive-thru toy drive cancelled but you can still help bring holiday cheer to families in need

As required by the Provincial Health Officer’s orders issued on November 19, 2020 (and updated on November 25, 2020), the City of Port Moody, Port Moody Fire Rescue, and Port Moody Police have cancelled the Holiday Cheer at the Pier Drive-Thru Toy Drive event that was scheduled to take place on November 28, 2020 at Rocky Point Park.

While the cancellation of this event is disappointing for everyone involved, the health and safety of our residents and our employees must come first. As we work to deliver services and programs where possible during this challenging time, we are carefully following all federal and provincial recommendations and directives related to COVID19 and public health.

The spirit of the season is all about giving, and even though we can’t come together we can still bring some holiday cheer to local families in need. We invite you to help others in your community by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item at City Hall (100 Newport Drive) or the Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road). We’ll be accepting donations seven days a week between the hours of 8am and 4pm, from December 1 to 21, 2020. Marked collection bins will be located outside each building’s main entrance.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Inlet Centre Fire Hall (150 Newport Drive) or the Public Safety Building (3051 St. Johns Street) during business hours before December 15, 2020.

All toys collected will go to SHARE Family and Community Services. Thank you for helping local families in need this holiday season and for doing your part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The City has taken a number of steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while working to maintain core services. We’re continuously monitoring information about COVID-19 coming from public health authorities, and will make decisions about City services, programs, and facilities with the health and safety of our residents and our employees in mind.
