Construction set to begin September 3 for Murray Street Upgrades Project in Port Moody

Construction work for the next phase of the Murray Street Upgrades Project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Hours of work will be 7am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday, with no work on Sundays or statutory holidays.
Drivers can expect single-lane, alternating traffic at times throughout the construction zone, which will start in the 3000-block of Murray Street (at Electronic Avenue) and end in the 2500-block of Columbia Street (near the Flavelle Sawmill). The City will work to maintain two-way traffic during rush hour. Visit portmoody.ca/roadwork for up-to-date traffic information. Access to local businesses and Rocky Point Park will be maintained during construction.
The Murray Street Upgrades Project began in 2018 with the extension of the Murray Street bike path from Electronic Avenue to Hugh Street. Upcoming transportation improvements include:
- a new traffic signal at the Moody Street and Murray Street intersection;
- traffic signals with co-ordinated, pedestrian-activated crossings near the Moody Street Overpass and at the east entrance to the Rocky Point Park parking lot;
- a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists along the south side of the 2700-block of Murray Street; and
- a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists along the north side of the 2800-block of Murray Street, adjacent to Rocky Point Park.
Construction work on the transportation improvements will begin in November 2019. In this next phase starting September 3, 2019, crews will replace an aging watermain to ensure the City continues to provide reliable and safe drinking water to residents and businesses.
The Murray Street Upgrades Project, jointly funded by the City and TransLink, is identified as a priority in TransPort Moody, the City’s master transportation plan. It will improve driver, cyclist, and pedestrian safety while also making it more comfortable and convenient for people to use sustainable methods of transportation. The anticipated completion date for this project is May 2020. Learn more at portmoody.ca/murraystreet.
