weight room

Starting August 31, 2020, the City of Port Moody will welcome patrons back to the Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road) for weight room sessions and indoor sport court use by registration only.

Starting August 28, 2020, online registration will open up on Fridays at 8am for individual, 60-minute weight room sessions in the following week, Monday through Sunday. Weight room operating hours will be 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm on Saturdays, and 8am to 6:30pm on Sundays. Visit portmoody.ca/fitness for more information, including pricing.

The following health and safety measures will be in place in the weight room:

  • maximum occupancy limit of 15 patrons per one-hour session;
  • one-hour closure each day to allow for a mid-day deep clean;
  • some machines will be unavailable to allow for physical distancing; and
  • spotting, working out in groups, and sharing equipment will not be permitted.

Starting August 30, 2020, badminton, basketball, and pickleball players will be able to book courts at portmoody.ca/signmeup or by phone at 604-469-4556 during office hours, 24 hours in advance of their desired court time. Please note:

  • the cost will be $20 per court for a 45-minute block of time;
  • badminton and pickleball players can register in groups of four – there will be no rotation with other groups; and
  • for basketball, up to four people can practice skills and shooting, but there will be no game play.

For both the weight room and the indoor courts, there will be 30-minute breaks between bookings to support cleaning and physical distancing requirements.

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, patrons using the weight room or courts will be asked to:

  • arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your start time – no late entry will be permitted;
  • come prepared – bring a full water bottle and wear workout clothes, as there will be no access to change rooms, lockers, and cubbyholes;
  • stay two metres (six feet) apart from others when possible and wear a face mask when the appropriate distance cannot be maintained; and
  • stay home when sick, wash or sanitize hands frequently, and cough or sneeze into upper arm or elbow.

Limited use of the weight room and indoor sport courts is part of Moving Forward, our phased plan to deliver services and programs as we adapt to the new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety of our residents and employees is our top priority.
