City of Port Moody donates retired Mack Fire Truck to Firefighters without Borders
On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Port Moody Council, along with Port Moody Fire Rescue, donated a retired 1987 Mack Fire Apparatus truck to Firefighters without Borders for fire service use abroad in less developed countries.
“Firefighters without Borders does substantial work in developing countries,” said Mayor Mike Clay. “Since 2008, they have donated over 50 tons of retired firefighting equipment to ten countries. This fire apparatus has served its purpose in our community, and we’re delighted that it can take on a new life in another country. We’re so pleased that Port Moody can contribute in this global way.
In 2010 The City of Port Moody donated a decommissioned Fire-Rescue Equipment Truck to Firefighters without Borders which is still in use in Peru. Based on the success of the previous donation, Mayor and Council decided to donate the recently retired 1987 Mack Fire Apparatus to Firefighters without Borders for use abroad in less developed countries.
The decommissioned 1987 Mack Fire Apparatus was put into service as a frontline pumper for Port Moody Fire-Rescue for 15 years and then relegated to back-up status for an additional 10 years.
