art in public spaces workshop

The City invites residents to help shape the vision of public art in Port Moody by participating in the Art in Public Spaces Community Workshop at Old Orchard Hall (646 Bentley Road) on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 7 to 9pm

The workshop will include an overview of how public art celebrates pride of place and enriches Port Moody’s arts and cultural life. Building on public engagement activities held earlier in the year, participants will break out into small groups to discuss goals for public art in Port Moody.

Residents who wish to attend the Art in Public Spaces Community Workshop are asked to register online at portmoody.ca/artworkshop. Light refreshments will be served.

Previous engagement activities included two pop-up cafés, one in Queen Street Plaza during the Shuffle Port Moody Art Walk on June 21 and the other in Rocky Point Park on June 22, 2019. In addition, Sounding Boards were located at the Port Moody Community Fair on June 15, and inside City Hall, Kyle Centre, and the Port Moody Recreation Complex throughout late spring and summer 2019. Sounding Boards are large sheets of paper with a guiding question printed on them and space for members of the public to respond in writing or with drawings.

Input collected during these engagement activities and at the November 6 workshop will inform the development of a draft Art in Public Spaces Master Plan, to be considered by Council in early 2020. The Plan will be a comprehensive and strategic document to guide and set direction for future decision-making. It will articulate a common vision, goals, recommendations, and an action plan built on the understanding that art is integral to Port Moody’s quality of life.
