Prior to the declaration of official results, the Chief Election Officer and designated election officials carried out a discretionary internal recount on October 18 and 19, 2022 to verify preliminary results. The recount was initiated by the Chief Election Officer due to a small margin in votes between two candidates for the position of councillor. Candidate-appointed scrutineers were present to observe the recount process. The Chief Election Officer has confirmed that the recount has upheld the preliminary results as determined on October 15, 2022.

An internal recount, initiated at the discretion of the Chief Election Officer, is different from a judicial recount. An eligible elector, candidate, candidate representative, or the Chief Election Officer may apply to the Provincial Court for a judicial recount under specific circumstances. The period to apply for a judicial recount begins as soon as the official election results have been declared and ends nine days after the close of general voting.

The mayor-elect and councillors-elect will be sworn in at an official ceremony during the Inaugural Council Meeting at Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Drive) on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. The meeting will start at 7pm with a reception to follow; both events are open to the public. The theatre doors will open at 6:30pm. This meeting will be live streamed at portmoody.ca/watchlive and a video recording will be available by 3pm on November 2, 2022 at portmoody.ca/councilcalendar.
