The City of Port Moody is introducing traffic calming measures on Spring Street to improve pedestrian, cyclist, and driver safety. These traffic calming measures support the City's Official Community Plan (OCP) and are in response to concerns raised by residents. This is a pilot project and the temporary measures will be monitored for effectiveness through to Spring 2022.  

Impact to you

  • no eastbound vehicle access to Spring Street from Douglas Street, Elgin Street, and Kyle Street
  • no westbound vehicle access to Spring Street from Grant Street and Moody Street
  • right turn only for eastbound traffic on Spring Street at Moody Street

Project details

The City is introducing these traffic calming measures in response to concerns raised by residents. Traffic monitoring indicates that commuters are using Spring Street to avoid the evening rush hour on Clarke Street and St. Johns Street. Spring Street was not designed for commuter traffic and the changes at the five intersections noted above are designed to stop commuters from using Spring Street to bypass Clarke Street or St. Johns Street during peak travel times. On Spring Street, barricades will be set up at five intersections to prevent traffic from entering. Vehicles will still be able to exit Spring Street at all intersections. Restrictions will not apply to pedestrians, cyclists, or authorized City service vehicles.

Timeline

Traffic pattern changes take effect on May 25, 2021 and will be monitored for one year. Please note: the changes at the Elgin Street intersection will be completed in coordination with the development projects in that area.
