To vote in a Port Moody municipal election, you need to register to vote. This can be done with Elections BC prior to the election or at the polling station. Please review all voting requirements to make sure you have what you need to vote in Port Moody.

Register to vote

The City of Port Moody uses the BC Provincial List of Voters to identify registered voters for municipal elections. To add your name to the list, you need to register to vote through Elections BC.

Register at your polling station

If you are not on the BC Provincial List of Voters, you can still vote on Election Day. At the time of voting, you will need to provide:

  • two pieces of valid identification (at least one with a signature) to prove your residency and identity; or
  • two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) that provides evidence of identity, and make a solemn declaration as to your place of residence

Non-resident registration

If you are not a Port Moody resident, but own property in the City, you may be eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector. To qualify, you will need to be a registered property owner in the City of Port Moody for at least 30 days prior to the election. To register, you will need to:

  • pick up an application for registration as a non-resident voter from the Chief Election Officer at City Hall or from an election official at your voting location
  • provide two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove your identity
  • satisfactory proof (e.g. current title search) that you are entitled to register in relation to the property
  • written consent from a majority of other registered property owners of the property (if applicable)

Voting requirements

In order to vote in a Port Moody municipal election, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • a resident of BC for at least six months immediately prior to General Voting Day
  • a resident of Port Moody for at least 30 days immediately prior to General Voting Day

Valid identification

The following forms of identification are accepted at your polling station:

  • BC Drivers' Licence
  • BCID card issued by the Motor Vehicle Branch
  • owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issues by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia
  • BC CareCard, Gold CareCard or BC Service Card
  • Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation Form HR 81
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Citizenship Card
  • property tax notice
  • utility bill
  • credit card issued by a savings institution
  • debit card (with your name on the card) issued by a savings institution
