Every four years, the City of Port Moody holds municipal elections to elect City Council. Council consists of one Mayor, six City Councillors, and two School Trustees. During the 2018 municipal election, 8,831 ballots were cast out of 23,195 eligible voters. This means we had a 38.07% voter turnout.

Community opinion question

During the 2018 municipal election, we asked residents about selling off public property to invest in park expansions and other city improvements with the following question:

“Do you support the sale, partial sale, or lease of the former Fire Hall and existing Works Yard sites to pay for more park land and one or more of the [following community improvements]?”

  • provide seniors' housing
  • build a new sports field and Inlet Park
  • replace and expand the Port Moody Public Library
  • require developers to provide affordable, below-market rental housing
  • reconstruct and expand Kyle Centre
  • relocate the existing Works Yard from Murray Street to Barnet Highway
  • provide other improvements, depending on community priorities

The community opinion question results are:

  • Yes (4,103 votes)
