Artist Statement

One of the things that I noticed and enjoyed very much after I moved to Port Moody were the numerous wooden boardwalks, pathways, and bridges through the trail system which are explicitly associated with flow and connectivity. I chose to represent the boardwalk bridge because a bridge to me is an ideal metaphor for imagination, exploration and discovery. A bridge connects two points; it is a physical passage from one point to another and interlinks space with other spaces together forming a complex network of urban forms over other natural or built spaces.

Artist Bio

Sara Graham has produced diverse bodies of work that share a concern with the images and issues that make up the cities we live in or those that we imagine. She has an ongoing interest in how people and communities shape and are shaped by the numerous systems and networks within the everyday, in how people move within and around cities and especially through the visible and invisible infrastructure that lie behind the built and unbuilt forms that together create urban environments. Graham holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MFA from the University of Guelph.
