Artist Studio
The City of Port Moody owns and operates a collection of artist studios at 2709 Esplanade Ave. We rent these spaces to emerging and professional artists to encourage them to base their practice in the City. By providing studio space, we also try to connect artists to a larger creative network and help foster collaboration and community.
Our studios
We have 11 private studios that range in size. Each space is unique. Some have skylights or windows, and others have private washrooms. Common areas such as a kitchen, washroom, and private gallery space is shared between artists.
Unfortunately our studios are not suitable for all art forms. Please note that we are unable to accept performing, musical, or ceramic artists. Art practices that generate fumes of any type are also not permitted at the 2709 Esplanade Art Studios.
Availability and rates
Studio rental rates are based on the size of the studio as well as special features, and shared amenities. For a full list of rates and current available space, please contact the Community Art Coordinator.
Please note that all studios are currently rented and a waitlist is being maintained.
Join the waitlist
Please note that the waitlist currently has more than 35 artists in line.
If you would like to be added to our waitlist for a studio space, please complete our 2709 Esplanade Art Studios Waitlist Request Form. You will be notified by email within 10 business days, confirming your request.
The rental process
When a space becomes available, waitlisted artists will be contacted in the order they applied. If an artist wishes to apply for that particular studio, a formal application will be requested.
Applications will require two professional references, one landlord reference, and a CV or resume.
A successful artist will be required to sign a one-year lease, provide monthly post-dated cheques, and a one month’s rent security deposit.
Applicants may vacate their studio with one month’s notice. At the end of the tenancy, the unit must be returned to its original neutral state.
