Film Night | Maudie
presented by the Port Moody Film Society
Maudie filmMaudie, based on the life of the renowned Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis, is an unlikely romance. The reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires the fragile yet determined woman Maud Dowley (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but crippled by rheumatoid arthritis, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family; she also yearns, passionately, to create art. The film charts the highs and lows of their relationship, and Maud’s surprising rise to fame as an artist. Winner of 6 Canadian Screen Awards in 2018, including Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Picture.
