Port Moody seeks feedback on potential zoning revisions to address large homes in Glenayre
The City of Port Moody will host an open house at Glenayre Community Centre (492 Glencoe Drive) on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 7 to 9pm to obtain feedback on potential zoning revisions for one-family residential (RS1) properties in Glenayre.
“The community has expressed concerns about large homes and changing neighbourhood character,” says Mayor Mike Clay. “To address those concerns, Council is looking at potential revisions to one-family residential zoning in Glenayre. The Open House is a chance for people to provide input into the potential bylaw changes, and discuss the implications with city planners and their neighbours. I encourage Glenayre residents to take advantage of this opportunity to share their thoughts.”
The potential zoning revisions include reducing the permitted height, coverage, and floor area of new homes, as well as restricting front yard fences, increasing side yard setbacks, and introducing landscaping requirements.
Residents who attend the Open House on September 25 will be able to share their comments via a paper survey; those who can’t make it, or who prefer to share their feedback electronically, can fill out the survey online at portmoody.ca/glenayre after September 25, 2017.
In May 2017, City staff presented to Council a variety of recommendations to address concerns around large homes in many of Port Moody’s RS1-zoned neighbourhoods; Council endorsed a resolution to explore RS1 zoning changes for the Glenayre neighbourhood. In June 2017, Council further directed staff to host an open house for Glenayre residents, to obtain feedback before making a decision. The feedback collected will inform staff’s preparation of a Zoning Bylaw Amendment for Council’s consideration.
