Art at Council June 27, 2017 - Maria Centola | Ties of Time
The City’s StreetArts Banner Program brings art to life on the streets of Port Moody. Tonight we are focusing on the artist designed banner by Maria Centola titled Ties of Time which is on display from spring to fall in 2017 and again in 2018.
Maria is an illustrator-designer who believes in building community and inspiring discussion around creativity and innovation. She has lived in the Tri-Cities for over 20 years, and after graduating from Capilano University’s IDEA program, completed her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Graphic Design at the University of Hertfordshire in England.
The 2017-2018 banner theme ‘Moving ahead, respecting our past’ inspired Maria to represent the link between the anticipated arrival of the Venosta, the first train coming to Port Moody in 1886, and the same excitement for the arrival of the SkyTrain, Evergreen Extension in 2017. Her illustration depicts a woman sitting on the vintage train entering Port Moody. Gazing out the window she sees the future of Port Moody - tying the past and future together.
