Port Moody Youth Arts Festival

Festival deadlines:

April 15: Deadline for submitting applications for Music Arts projects.

May 5 & 6: Final reviews and selection of projects for presentation at the festival.

July 27, 28, 29: Festival

Who can apply:

Applicants must be 13 to 18 years of age, unless applying to lead a music arts seminar. First priority for admission into the festival will be given to residents of Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam. Applicants from other municipalities will be considered after May 6th , if space is available.

Fees:

There are no entry fees for this year’s festival.

Guidelines for music arts projects:

Any combination of singers and/or musicians may apply to perform .

Performance Possibilities:

Soloists (Acappella)
Soloists (with Accompaniment)
Soloists (Self-Accompanied)
Solo Instrumentalists
Group Singers (Duos, Trios, Quartets etc., Acappella)
Group Singers (Duos, Trios, Quartets, etc. with Accompaniment)
Bands (Duos, Trios, Quartets, etc. Any Style, Instrumental)
Bands (Duos, Trios, Quartets, etc. Any Style, with Singers)
Chamber Orchestras

These are suggestions. Any music arts project in any form or combination will be considered for admission to the festival. 

Music Arts Seminars and Workshops:

Music arts enthusiasts of any age wishing to lead one-hour seminars or workshops on any aspect of music are welcome to submit proposals. Possible topics include:

Composing Music
Singing Techniques
Advice on Forming and Managing Bands
Advice on Running Music Concerts
Using Music Software
Instrument Care, Maintenance, and Tuning
Song Sharing Sessions
Sharing Sessions in Any Musical Style
Sharing Sessions Focused on a Specific Instrument
Guitar Tips and Tricks
Percussion Workshops
Learning How to Use Tab Sheets
Sight Reading Music

These are suggestions. Any topic will be considered. The structure of the seminar, and any equipment required, will be the responsibility of the leader.

Logistical considerations:

If a project requires specialized technical support (such as projectors, computers, monitors, cables, specialized sound equipment, etc.), the applicant will be responsible for supplying, operating, and safeguarding the equipment.

Mainstage band performances that depend on electrically amplified instruments must be 30 minutes or less in length, including setup and takedown.

Non-electric mainstage music performances by instrumental groups or by instrumental groups with singers must be 25 minutes or less.

Acappella mainstage music performances or solo performances must be 20 minutes or less.

Performances in non-traditional performance areas in the civic centre must be 30 minutes or less in length.

When we receive your application:

We will start an ongoing conversation about your project. We want you to succeed, and we will do what we can to help you. Final reviews, auditions, and selection of projects will take place on May 5 and 6.
