The Letters Patent, issued on behalf of the Crown on March 11, 1913, defines the tracts of land that constituted the new municipality of the City of Port Moody. The Letters Patent also define the composition of and qualifications for the first municipal council, defines voter qualifications, the duties of the Returning Officer for the first election and other requirements of the conduct of the election such as nominations, voting and timing of the first council meeting after the election. Supplementary letters patent define additional lands which extended the area of the municipality, the first of which was in 1974 and the most recent being 1992.
