Goal: Enhance infrastructure to eliminate loss/leakage

Objective: Implement leak identification and repair programs and implement operational programs to reduce leakage as per the Metro Vancouver Drinking Water Management Plan.

Action Items:            

Þ     Complete leak detection assessment by 2011.

Þ     Complete leak detection remedial work between 2011 and 2015.

Action Items:

Þ      Review existing water conservation measures in City parks irrigation (e.g., rains sensors, controllers, use of drip irrigation, etc) and identify any needed changes for new infrastructure

Þ      Implement water conservation measures in City facilities (e.g., low flow toilets, low flow shower heads, etc)

Goal: Re-use wastewater

Objective: Identify opportunities for grey water and rainwater recycling.

Action Items:

Þ      Conduct a grey water and rainwater recycling pilot that meets cross-connection requirements of the Building Code.

Goal: Use green roof technology to capture stormwater to replace serviced water use.

Objective: Increase green roof technology use

Action Items:

Þ      Select one city facility to propose a pilot project feasibility study for capture and reuse of green roof rainwater.

Þ      Encourage green roof technology for private development applications, using the sustainability checklist.
