Government of Canada grant means new centre for arts in Port Moody
|The arts community in Port Moody got a major boost over the weekend thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada.
This funding allows the Port Moody Arts Centre Society to renovate a historic building for use as a centre for arts workshops, training, ongoing programs, and special events. The grant also supports the Port Moody Festival of the Arts for the next two years. This longstanding community event takes place in late September, and features music, theatre, comedy, literary and visual arts.
“On behalf of the City of Port Moody, I’d like to thank the Government of Canada for their generous contribution towards the arts in our community,” said Mayor Mike Clay. “Receiving this grant during our centennial year is especially significant – a new centre for arts is a lasting legacy that benefits our residents for years to come.”
“I’d also like to thank our partners over at the Port Moody Arts Centre Society,” Mayor Clay continued. “They engage the community with a huge variety of cultural programming, and really make us shine as the City of the Arts.”
The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $500,785 over two years (2012–2013 and 2013–2014) to the Port Moody Arts Centre Society through two programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage ($480,785) and the Canada Arts Presentation Fund ($20,000).
