Work begins on new Inlet Centre Fire Hall
Work is now underway for the next phase of the new Inlet Centre Fire Hall, following the award of the construction contract to Kinetic Construction. The site office and fencing are located adjacent to the City Hall entrance in an area that will be partially used for parking at the new fire hall. Any grass that is removed will be restored and fresh landscaping added when construction is over.
To prepare the foundation of the new building, the contractor will be relocating the existing preload material to other areas of the site and completing excavations. During these excavations, trucks will remove soils that are not suitable for construction. We expect that trucking to and from the site will have minimal impact, but may affect some traffic at the Newport Road and Knowle Street intersection. The work does not require any road closures.
The Inlet Centre Fire Hall is designed to meet post-disaster seismic standards and will require a piling foundation. Piling is expected to take place from mid-November to mid-December 2012. The duration may vary due to ground conditions at the time of work.
