Port Moody selects its Necklace Project public art piece
Port Moody’s public art collection is growing again. At a July 10 Council meeting, the City revealed preliminary designs for The Necklace Project. Vancouver artist Blake Williams is designing five glass mosaics with historical photos and text. The Port Moody Arts Centre will be home to a large six foot anchor piece, with four additional works installed at historically-significant locations across the city.
The Necklace Project’s purpose is to create a series of signature public art pieces across ten municipalities. All of the pieces reflect a common theme – “illuminance” – which is defined as light’s capacity to produce visual stimulation or clarity.
“Being part of a regional public art project is a first for Port Moody,” said Mayor Mike Clay. “This installation not only reflects who we are as ‘City of the Arts’, but also ties us to nine other municipalities who value art in their community.”
The City is planning an unveiling for its newest piece in mid-to-late September. Look for details closer to the date on our website.
