New pavement markings in front of Fire Hall No. 1 keep the intersection clear for emergency vehicles
|Vehicles stopped in front of Fire Hall No. 1 may have noticed something a little different on the roadway: six white dots. These attention-grabbing new symbols are designed to keep the intersection clear for emergency vehicles turning onto Ioco Road. Drivers seem to be getting the hang of it - in a morning commute survey conducted by the City, 96% of motorists kept the intersection clear.
Traditionally, cities have used signage and hatched pavement to identify areas that motorists need to keep clear. However, hatched markings require ongoing maintenance, as tires quickly wear away the paint. Port Moody’s unique oval shape goes right between vehicle wheels, meaning less re-painting and maintenance in the future. Their large size also reflects light more effectively, making them easier to see at all times.
