Candidate nomination period opens for 2018 Port Moody General Local and School Board Election

The candidate nomination period for the 2018 Port Moody General Local and School Board Election is now open. The Chief Election Officer will receive nominations for the offices of mayor, councillor, and school trustee until 4pm on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Nomination packages are available for pick up at the Legislative Services counter at City Hall (100 Newport Drive). Potential candidates may also email the Chief Election Officer at to obtain a nomination package and copies of the necessary forms. The City encourages candidates to book an appointment to review and submit nomination forms with the Chief Election Officer or her designate. Candidates are asked to call 604-469-4603 or email to set up a 30-minute appointment.

Candidates do not have to live in Port Moody, but must meet the following requirements to run for office in the 2018 General Local and School Board Election:

  • be 18 years or older;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be a resident of B.C. for at least six months (since April 19, 2018);
  • not be disqualified by law.

Candidate nomination papers will be posted to as they are received between September 4, 2018 and September 14, 2018.

General Voting Day is Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the City of Port Moody. Qualified electors will vote for one mayor, six councillors, and two school trustees for a four-year term.

On October 20, polls will be open from 8am to 8pm at the following locations: Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road), Kyle Centre (125 Kyle Street), Heritage Mountain Community Centre (200 Panorama Place), and Glenayre Community Centre (492 Glencoe Drive). Advance polls will be open from 8am to 8pm on Wednesday, October 10 and Saturday, October 13 in the Parkview Room at Port Moody City Hall (100 Newport Drive).
