Port Moody Mayor, Council, and Norton family to dedicate Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond in Westhill Park

wayne nortonOn May 12, 2018, the City of Port Moody will dedicate the Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond in Westhill Park, in honour of the late Wayne Norton, a long-time resident of Port Moody who was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Mayor Mike Clay will say a few words at 12noon, followed by some of Mr. Norton’s family and friends. Mayor Clay, Council members in attendance, and the Norton family will then pose for a photo next to the new Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond sign.

At approximately 12:20pm, Mayor Clay and the Norton family will participate in throwing and catching the first pitch before two Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball Association teams, the Dodgers and the Red Sox, start the day’s game.

Mr. Norton was a Canadian baseball legend who had a successful career as player, manager, executive, and scout in Canada and the United States. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2015, and passed away in January 2018.
