Port Moody Mayor, Council, and Norton family to dedicate Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond in Westhill Park
|On May 12, 2018, the City of Port Moody will dedicate the Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond in Westhill Park, in honour of the late Wayne Norton, a long-time resident of Port Moody who was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.
Mayor Mike Clay will say a few words at 12noon, followed by some of Mr. Norton’s family and friends. Mayor Clay, Council members in attendance, and the Norton family will then pose for a photo next to the new Wayne Norton Baseball Diamond sign.
At approximately 12:20pm, Mayor Clay and the Norton family will participate in throwing and catching the first pitch before two Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball Association teams, the Dodgers and the Red Sox, start the day’s game.
Mr. Norton was a Canadian baseball legend who had a successful career as player, manager, executive, and scout in Canada and the United States. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2015, and passed away in January 2018.
