The City has launched a new initiative to permit use of outdoor sidewalk areas by businesses wishing to establish small outdoor eating and/or display areas in front of their shops in the Moody Centre area. We are piloting this program in the area of Moody Centre bounded by Moody, St. Johns, Douglas and Clarke Streets, although businesses outside this area may certainly apply.

Whether you are currently using space outside your premises for tables, chairs or other items, or wish to establish such an area, an application and permit is required.

Items to be placed in the permitted area must not be offered for sale, but rather used to enhance the store front and provide a small outdoor area for customers.

This initiative is intended to support the tourism and hospitality sector by enhancing Moody Centre as a pleasant destination for visitors. It is being initiated as part of the City’s Polish the Gem program.

If you are currently using an outdoor space, please download, fill out, and return the application form to City Hall. As we are stepping up bylaw enforcement in your neighbourhood, you may be approached by a bylaw enforcement officer to check your permit. If you do not have one, they will provide you with an application and a time frame within which to submit and obtain your permit.
