6. Will you be providing mobile voting for those who can’t get to the polls?
Yes, there will be mobile poll, Saturday, November 12 at Eagle Ridge Hospital, Eagle Ridge Manor and the Legion Manor for residents and patients only. (Curbside voting will be available at any of the regular polls for those who for mobility reasons are unable to enter the voting place).
7. Would an elector’s ballot be spoiled if they did not vote for the office of Mayor?
No. Electors can vote for up to the number of offices to be elected but don’t need to vote in each “race” or for the public opinion question on the ballot. Electors can also vote for fewer than the six councillors to be elected.
Advance voting
8. Can I vote in advance?
Yes, any qualified elector can vote at one of the two advance voting opportunities.
- When: Wednesday, November 9th and Saturday, November 12th
- Where: Conference Room, Port Moody Recreation Complex
- Time: 8 am to 8 pm
Note: If you are not on the list of registered electors, you may register at time of voting - 2 documents that provide evidence of your identity and place of residence, at least one with a signature are required to prove residency at time of registration.
Mail-in Ballot
9. If I can’t vote at the advance voting or on election day, can I vote?
Yes, we have mail in ballot voting. Voting by mail is available for electors with a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity, and/or electors who expect to be absent from Port Moody on General Voting November 19, 2011. Before 4 pm on November 17, 2011 you must submit the following information to the City of Port Moody Clerk’s office (by mail, telephone, fax or email to crohde@portmoody.ca):
- Full name,
- Residential address,
- Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors),
- Method of delivery of your mail ballot package:
- pick up at Port Moody City Hall, OR
- regular letter mail through Canada Post to residential address, OR
- regular letter mail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when requesting the ballot package,
- If you are not on the list of electors, to ensure you receive the correct registration application form in your package, you must indicate whether you are going to be registering as a resident or non-resident property elector.
Mail ballot packages will be sent out commencing on or about November 9. Your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8 pm on November 19, 2011.
10. Why doesn’t the City hold the advance voting opportunities earlier?
As the statutory deadline to withdraw as a candidate is October 21 election officials must wait until after that deadline before getting the ballots produced.

11. Must I be a Canadian Citizen to vote?
Yes
12. What are the qualifications to vote?
You can qualify as a resident elector or non-resident property elector:
Resident elector, at time of voting, must:
- be 18 or older
- be Canadian Citizen
- be resident of BC for at least 6 months
- be resident of electoral area (Port Moody) for 30 days
- not be disqualified by law
Non-Resident Property Elector, at time of voting, must:
- be 18 or older
- be Canadian Citizen
- be resident of BC for at least 6 months
- be a registered owner of real property in Port Moody for 30 days immediately before the day of registration
- not be eligible to register as a resident elector in Port Moody
- not be disqualified by law
- only register in relation to one piece of property
13. I own property in Port Moody but don’t live there, can I register to vote on voting day?
Yes, you can register as a Non-Resident Property Owner. Forms can be obtained from City Hall. To register you must provide:
- Proof of ownership (ie: tax bill or title search
- Two pieces of identification, at least one of which must contain your signature
- If applicable, written consent from the majority of the property owners (including the signature of the person registering to vote)
14. If I own property in addition to my residence can I vote twice?
No, you may only vote once.
15. How is “residency” determined for the purposes of voting?
Your usual place of residence must be in the City of Port Moody.
16. Am I on the List of Electors?
The City of Port Moody uses the most current available list from the Province. If not on the List of Registered Electors, any qualified elector can register at the time of voting.
17. Can I register in advance if my name is not on the List of Electors?
No, there will be no advance registration. You may register at time of voting if you qualify to vote as a resident elector or non-resident property elector.
Note: 2 pieces of identification, at least one with a signature are required to prove residency at time of registration.

18. Do candidates have to live in Port Moody?
No
19. What are the requirements to be a candidate? Candidates must, by voting day:
- be 18
- a Canadian citizen
- resident of BC for 6 months
- not be disqualified by law
20. How do I become a candidate?
Nomination packages will be available from Friday, August 26, 2011 for pick up at the Legislative Services Counter, Main Floor, City Hall, 100 Newport Drive.
Nomination papers must be filed with the Chief Election Officer at City Hall between 9:00 am Tuesday, October 4th and 4:00 pm Friday, October 14, 2011.
21. How do I find out who the candidates are?
Candidate nomination papers will be posted on this site as they are received between October 4 and 14.
22. Is there an election advertising “blackout” period on Saturday, November 19th?
Newspaper, magazine, radio or television advertising on election day is prohibited. This applies to ads to promote or oppose a candidate, an elector organization, or a particular outcome in other voting (in our case, other voting is the casino question that is on the ballot). Please also be reminded that there is a prohibition against campaigning or campaign signs/literature with 100 metres of voting places on voting day.
