Film Night | Made in Dagenham
presented by the Port Moody Film Society
Made in DagenhamIn 1968, the Ford factory in Dagenham, UK employed thousands of men. There were also 187 underpaid women machinists. Dissatisfied with poor working conditions, the women and the shop steward Rita O’Grady (Sally Hawkins), work with union rep Albert Passingham (Bob Hoskins) for a better deal. After learning that women are paid a fraction of men’s wages for the same work O’Grady leads a strike for equal pay for equal work. What follows tests the mettle of all involved, and ultimately advances the cause of women’s rights around the world.
