The City of Port Moody is known for its rich history and its commitment to heritage conservation. In 2001, a five-year Heritage Strategic Plan was prepared in order to identify, maintain and protect community heritage resources. This plan successfully guided Port Moody’s heritage program and many of the tasks outlined in the plan were successfully completed. The Port Moody Heritage Commission identified the need to update the Heritage Strategic Plan.

An update to the 2001 Heritage Strategic Plan was prepared by heritage specialist Donald Luxton for the City of Port Moody in consultation with the Port Moody Heritage Commission, City staff, community stakeholders and input received at a workshop and open house held November 1, 2006 and February 6, 2007 respectively. The Heritage Strategic Plan Update has been reviewed by the City’s Heritage Commission and adopted by City Council on July 24, 2007.

The update to the Heritage Strategic Plan is a five year plan (2007-2011) that will guide Port Moody in conserving significant heritage resources for future generations. More specifically, it provides a framework for the ongoing development of the City’s heritage program by answering key questions about the existing situation, defining a community vision for heritage and recommending an action plan for future initiatives. The goal of the strategic plan update is to better understand the issues facing the community in the preservation of our historic resources and to chart a direction for ongoing heritage planning. Read more about how we're going to implement this strategy.
