Port Moody’s Cultural Services began in 1995 when the City hired its first Cultural Services Coordinator just as the new Civic Complex and Inlet Theatre opened to the public. As the role of Cultural Services grew, so did the Division. The Theatre became busier , the public art collection grew and the number of festivals and events quickly increased. Today, the Cultural Services Division includes five regular staff and forms an important part of the Community Services Department. The key functions of Cultural Services include:
- Managing and implementing public art projects and the StreetArts Banner Program
- Managing the rentals and activities of Inlet Theatre, the Civic Centre Galleria and the stage at Rocky Point Park
- Supporting local arts and culture groups such as the Port Moody Arts Centre Society, Port Moody Heritage Society and ArtsConnect
- Supporting local arts and culture events and festivals such as Festival of the Arts, Summer Sunday Concerts and the Canadian Film Festival
- Coordinating filming activities in Port Moody
- Assisting with planning and executing City events such as the Civic Appreciation Dinner, Canada Day Ceremony and Spike Business Awards
- Managing the 2709 Esplanade Artist Studios
- Providing support to the City’s Arts and Culture Committee
