The Civic Centre, Arts Centre, and Recreation Complex will look a little bit different over the next several months, as major renovations are underway.
The Civic Facilities Renewal Project, approved by Council in 2015, involves significant repairs to the building envelope for all three facilities. The renovations are necessary to prevent further deterioration that would lead to higher repair or replacement costs.
The Civic Centre renovations will include repairs to the roof, brick walls, exterior windows and doors, and several major pieces of equipment that are components of the building’s heating and cooling systems. The Recreation Complex renovations will include roof repairs, the replacement of cladding and soffits, and upgrades to the electrical, heating, and cooling systems for the steam room. The Port Moody Arts Centre needs a new roof and new exterior stairway, as well as cleaning and painting of the building’s siding.
During the renovations, City business will continue as usual. All three civic facilities will be open, although you’ll notice crews working, intermittent noise, and the addition of scaffolding and construction equipment. As sections of the buildings are completed, the scaffolding will be removed.
Update (December 2018): Completion of construction work has been delayed due to a variety of factors, including more extensive deterioration of the building envelope than expected. Based on the current list of items to be completed for this project, we anticipate the renovations will be finished in spring 2019.
Renovations to the Arts Centre are nearing completion.
