The City’s Invasive Plants Program includes the following key areas of activity:

  • City Lands Management – The City undertakes various initiatives to prevent, remove and control invasive plants in City parks and other City-owned property. Example initiatives include maintaining an inventory of areas within City property where invasive plants are present, as well as developing and implementing annual invasive plant removal plans.
  • Development Requirements – As part of reviews for new developments, the City requires that invasive plants be removed and areas be re-vegetated with native plants.
  • Education and Outreach – The City undertakes various initiatives to raise awareness on the impacts of invasive plants, advise on what can be done to prevent and control infestations, and encourage native plantings throughout our community.
  • Community Stewardship – Various groups work to improve the ecological health of Port Moody’s natural environment. These efforts include coordinating and undertaking volunteer invasive plant removals. The City encourages and supports these efforts. For more information on volunteering, visit the Community Action page. “
